Force Majeure and The Sydney Theatre Company represents this in their latest production, Never Did Me Any Harm.
The show explores contemporary attitudes towards raising children drawn from real-life interviews with parents.
It poses questions regarding the level of choice, boundaries and chances that should be given to children.
Cast member Tracy Mann plays multiple roles in the production, to represent the different parenting experiences.
This includes a powerful monologue from the perspective of a woman who is unable to have children.
Mann said the wide range of experiences played out on stage resonated with audience members.
“It’s a very truthful piece and it’s very relevant,” she said.
“I think in some ways it’s more relevant than when we performed it four years ago because there’s more acceptance, inclusiveness and tolerance now.”
Mann said the production was a cathartic experience for all members of the family.
“There’s something everyone can identify with because it’s about contemporary parenting,” she said.
“It’s an all-inclusive family show.”
Mann said she hoped audience members “will see something they haven’t seen before”.
“We’re combining dance, physical theatre, spoken text and beautiful lighting,” she said.
“It’s a very special show in that it’s an unusual way of storytelling.”
“I hope people will open their eyes and hearts to a piece of theatre that can transport them.”
Mann said the cast and crew were “delighted” to stage the production in Orange.
“It’s always lovely to experience regional theatres,” she said.
“We’re bringing theatre to people who will enjoy it. To me, that’s what it’s all about.”
The production will be performed at the Orange Civic Theatre on Saturday from 7.30pm.
Tickets are $44 for adults, $40 for concession card holders and $25 for juniors.
