Former Hawks player Tori Writer has coupled with the two blues to turn this weekend’s derby into a fundraising initiative for Livin, a charity which raises awareness and funds for suicide prevention, after the club lost league tag star Kathy Cooper to suicide last year.
The day has been billed as a family event and will feature raffles, cupcake sales, jumping castles and face painting among other fundraising events.
Hawks president Frank Sheehan called on any sporting clubs, or anyone in general, to support the cause in one way or another – in his words “it’s not about Hawks or CYMS, it’s a great way for the community to get behind a great cause”.
Sullivan lauded Writer and Hawks, and said the green and golds will throw their support behind the concept.
“It’s a wonderful initiative, Hawks and CYMS have always been able to put their on-field differences aside for this kind of thing and being such a good cause that will be happening again,” Sullivan said.
“It’s definitely a cause we support and we’re happy to get behind it.”
Central West Gymnastics has also thrown its support behind the cause and will put on a pre-game performance, with a special guest performance from former Justice Crew member Emmanuel Rodriguez, while the CYMS and Bloomfield Tigers’ under-8 sides will play an exhibition match between league tag and first division.
The day starts with league tag at 11.30am.
