Snow is forecast to fall to 1000 metres early next week, but there is no guarantee of access to the mountain on the weekend.
Cabonne Shire Council’s engineering director Mark Ryan said access depended on the weather and staff would make the judgement.
“(Canobolas) was closed on Friday morning because of expected snow,” Mr Ryan.
“There will be another inspection on Saturday morning.
“If it’s deemed safe, the gates will be opened to the public.”
Mr Ryan said it didn’t take much for conditions on the mountain to become dangerous and said if snow was expected, there would be no access.
Locals and tourists can check with Cabonne Shire Council if the gates to the mountain have been opened by calling the shire’s after-hours number on 6392 3234.
