Although Craig Harvey Mechanical’s performance was stoic Life Studio proved far too strong at Sir Neville Howse Stadium on Saturday afternoon, ultimately running out 53-28 winners.
Life Studio was a full win adrift of the top three leading into last weekend’s round six games but thanks to the 25-goal win - combined with Royal Hawks’ 41-40 loss to the Vipers - the perennial grand finalists are now just one point behind the third-placed two blues.
They trail the second-placed Vipers by a further two points while the undefeated Robin Hood side is another two points clear on top.
“We’ve had a tough start to the season ... we haven’t played out best netball and it’s hurt us so we were really pleased to have such a good win,” Aplin said.
“This was, I think, our best performance of the season so far but definitely still nowhere near our best netball.
“”We’ve had a bit of trouble gelling as a side which is a bit strange because we all played together last year but I guess [a few of us] have been in and out.
“We’re not far away, we’re just wanting to keep building now. But with us playing Robin Hood [after the long weekend] we’ll need to improve again.”
Life Studio led from start to finish on Saturday afternoon and Aplin said while her team was strong overall both Emily and Lucy Brisbane were deserving of individual praise.
“The Brisbane sisters were strong, Lucy in particular had a really strong game at centre,” Aplin said.
Hawks fell to Vipers last Thursday night in a game which was moved to suit both sides’ player availability while in Saturday’s other games KWS 1sts downed Life Studio Mid West Eyes, winning 55-51 in a tight battle and Robin Hood thumped OHS High A 52-22.
