THERE’S a three-way tie at the top of the competition table after five rounds of the Orange District Football Association Over-35 competition.
Despite Gladdyatahs holding the technical lead on goal difference, the side went down 3-0 in last weekend’s clash with Denley Moor.
Denley striker Harley Smith took his side to the lead early, before Paul Slingsby levelled the score for Gladdies.
In the second half, a well-placed Steve Fairly free kick sailed into the box and was left alone by everyone but Denley forward Steve Adams, who calmly ran through to slot the ball away from a metre out.
Smith overcame a missed spot kick to make it two for the day late in the match and clinch the 3-1 win.
Barnestoneworth United had the best of the chances throughout their match against Waratah Old Boys but couldn’t find the goal.
Tahs hit the front in the second half after a cross found the hand of a United defender in the box, triggering a penalty.
United’s best chance came when a free kick from Phil Saram sailed over the ’Tahs keeper’s head into the net. But the goal was disallowed when the referee ruled a Barnies forward had unfairly backed into the keeper.
United keeper Matt Savaro kept his side in the match, diving low to stop a shot soon after, but the scoreline stayed Waratah 1, United 0.
In other games, Brighouse retained its share of the leader board after 2-0 win over Millthorpe, reversing the result of last season’s grand final.
