We’re not talking about muzak being piped through shopping centres speakers here, it’s real life professional musicians playing instruments that simply enhance the shopping experience of which we speak.
Leading up to Valentine’s Day, shopping within the Orange City Centre will be just that little bit more relaxed and refined with international cellist David Loew performing some timeless classics, from Shostakovich to James Bond, within the centre, just outside the entrance to Myer.
Mr Loew is an international cellist spanning a 40 year career performing in Australia and Britain with his albums selling in numerous countries around the world.
“I’ve started to do these pop-up shows in shopping centres, designer brands shops and other unorthodox venues. They’re a very relaxed and informal way of presenting my music to everyone,” he said.
With tunes from famous films, classic albums and famous musicals in his extensive repertoire, listeners won’t be disappointed with what they hear.
Mr Loew has worked with many top London ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra and has also played in famous recording studios such as Abbey Road, and on major classical and pop albums over the years working with legends Elton John, Cliff Richard, Petula Clark, David Essex and opera stars Pavarotti, Sutherland and Caballe.
Performing in shopping centres is an unusual step for a professional musician, but Mr Loew said that the cost of putting on shows in traditional venues was becoming prohibitive for solo musicians.
“At the centre I will be playing for six or seven hours and I’ll be able to chat to people who are shopping. You don’t get to do that when you’re in a hall somewhere.”
Mr Loew will be performing at the centre this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
