Turnbull’s win in the Mullion Produce Three Year Old Stakes (1,730 metres) on favourite Taylah Studleigh ($3.40) saw Harness Racing NSW and NSW TAB each give $200 to the Women’s Cancer Foundation Ovarian Cancer Institute.

Thanks to further donations pledged by local supporters and businesses, that figure was set to exceed the $1000 mark.

It’s hoped to be one of many wins before March 12 for Turnbull and other female drivers across the state.

Each time they win a NSW race, it will add to the charity’s tally.

Taylah Studleigh led from start to finish – but only just – as a late challenge from Its Inevitable ($5) came up a half head short.

So Kool Master ($7) finished well for third, 3.6m off the winner.

The winning mile rate was 1:56.5.

Shot To Stardom got out best at the green light, but Taylah Studleigh was guided into the lead by Turnbull.

Inside starter Pom Pay was third in line behind Shot To Stardom, with the field stretched out over a long distance in the early stages.

At the bell Its Inevitable raced up from the rear of the field into the death seat.

The state of the field remained static until the final turn, where So Kool Master made a three-wide move.

Coming into the final straight Taylah Studleigh started to pull away from Its Inevitable before the gap was slowly bridged over the final 100m.

Other runners who looked like they would contest the finish included Shot To Stardom in the sprint lane and Miss Sporty Tara out wider, but it would be a duel to the line.

Had there been another couple of metres to run, Turnbull would have been looking at second place.

It was a first-time win for the Four Starzzz Shark out of El Ess Ee filly in her 18th start.

All remaining eight races on the card were taken out by male drivers, Mat Rue and Mitch Turnbull picking up two wins each.
