AS a regular early-morning swimmer at Lake Canobolas, I’m often appalled and very surprised by the amount of rubbish left lying about out there from the previous evening: wet and soiled disposable nappies, food scraps and containers, drink cans, coffee cups, wrappings and paper etc.

There are plenty of bins out there on both sides of the lake. Are people too lazy to walk to them, or do they just not care?
The day after Australia Day last year I went out there for my early-morning swim - what a disgusting mess! There were three council trucks and crews cleaning up. If the bins are full, perhaps get a couple of plastic bags from your car and take it home with you.
This is a truly beautiful area for fun and recreation and should be looked after and kept as pristine as possible.
Can we make a better effort this Australia Day and leave it as we find it?
P stands for people and pigs. Which are you?
