Played at Country Club Oval as the opening round fixture for both sides’ 2016 Western NSW Junior Cricket Carnival campaign,  Broes’ knock of 103 led the way as Mitchell’s plundered the ACT attack to all parts on their way to 8-192 from 50 overs.

In reply, the ACT boys made it to 9-135, but batted one short due to an injury sustained to one of their players while fielding.

Orange also enjoyed a strong win on day one, although there was a monumental batting collapse as well.

Sitting pretty at 5-100 in their batting innings, the black and golds were sensationally bowled out for 112 by the visiting Wakatipu boys.

Rory Daburger and Sam Ridley top scored for the hosts at Riawena Oval with 30 each.

With the ball, Orange got the job done, dismissing the Queenstown-based New Zealand high school side for 78.

In possibly the upset of the carnival’s opening day, Dubbo recorded a huge, eight wicket win over Blacktown at Jack Brabham Park.

The Macquarie Valley giants chased down 115 with consummate ease, reaching the total with 21 overs to spare.

James Whiting hit an impressive 57 for Blacktown, but it proved a lone hand as the Western Zone guns went to work with the ball.

In other results, Parramatta proved too good for Shoulhaven.

Tuesday’s fixtures pit Newington against South Coast, round one winners Dubbo against Shoulhaven, the ACT under-15 boys against Blacktown, the Manly Warringah boys against Parramatta, Wagga against the ACT under-14 boys, Mitchell against Wakatipu and hosts, Orange, up against St George.
