From 3pm to 8pm, the main street, Pym Street, will be closed off and taken over by music from at least five groups on the stage near the Blake Street intersection.
For the kids, there will be a jumping castle and gifts from Santa.
Local wines, specialist beers and food will be on sale near the stage.
All the village shops will be open, along with a small number of very carefully selected stallholders, together offering a wide range of unusual and special gifts for sale that you won’t find anywhere else for Christmas.
Millfest is a new type of event for Millthorpe, and the organisers from the Millthorpe business and village committees have been working hard to make it a success.
Special mention should be made of Bruce McDonald of Millthorpe Motel, who has co-ordinated a complex feat of organisation in a short time and Elwin Lang of the general store who has driven the concept with his characteristic energy.
Sam Colman, more often seen behind the counter at the general store, created a finished TV commercial in just over a week. This is screening on WIN, the highlight being Sam’s drone video of our rent-a-crowd in front of the station on November 28.
John Davis Motors in Orange and the Millthorpe Business Committee provided the seed funding that has allowed Millfest to become a reality.
Now all that’s needed is for you to come and enjoy the Christmas spirit with your family and friends between 3pm and 8pm this Saturday in Pym Street.
While on spirits, a brief mention of the Commercial Hotel. There’s a rumour doing the rounds that the business is about to be closed completely. Not true.
The Commercial Hotel’s Cynthia Faulkner says, while she and Gerry will close the pub after trading on Sunday, December 20, for a well-earned break, it will be back to busines as usual in the bar from Friday, January 15, with the Bistro to reopen on Friday, February 5.
Cynthia says “We do have it up for sale as you may know. However, rest assured that our very valued customers, our wonderful staff and good friends in the village, will be the first to know as soon as we have news of a sale.”
MILLTHORPE Garden Club’s meeting on Wednesday, December 16 will be its Christmas party, held in the garden of Paul and Kerrie Nicholls from noon.
Members are asked to bring a gift from their garden to exchange and a desert or salad to share, with meat and cool drinks being provided by the club.
To help with the organisation, or for directions, please RSVP to Kerrie on 6365 5150 or 0419 013 914. Visitors are most welcome.
ALSO on Wednesday, December 16, is the Millthorpe Village Committee’s Christmas Party, and all Millthorpe residents are invited.
It will be held at Mill Green, in Victoria Street near the railway overbridge, and is “bring your own everything” with barbecue facilities available.
It starts at 6.30pm and during the course of the early evening party the Millthorpe Community Awards will be announced.
THE last Millthorpe Secret Women’s Dinner for the year will be held at 7pm on Thursday, December 17 at Tonic.
It is hoped all the usual suspects will come along and, of course, all Millthorpe and district women are warmly welcomed. Phone Tonic on 6366 3811 to book in.
