However, surprise quickly turned to anger, and the planned operation was quickly cancelled.
We are told that there will be 5000 to 6000 officers, most with powers to restrain and handcuff.
It seems likely that, eventually, many will be given training in firearms and be armed. Therefore, it is important that we, the public, clearly and fully understand the role and powers of this new border force.
At the moment, in my opinion, we need to be “alert and rather alarmed”!
P.S. Like most residents, I find it very reassuring to see police officers patrolling all parts of Orange in both marked and unmarked vehicles.
I hope that they continue to catch drug-drivers and also those responsible for selling drugs, especially ice. Keep up the good work Orange police officers!
