Previously people walking to the library, gallery and temporary visitors’ centre could use a walkway from Byng Street however on Wednesday the barrier fencing around the work site was moved to block all access from Byng Street.
Council services committee chair Ron Gander said access to the library, gallery and visitors centre will only be from the car park at the rear of the Civic Centre.
“It’s great to see the construction team is moving on to begin work on the area at the front of the museum,” Cr Gander said.
“This means the former access will be out of action for the next three months.
“I’m sure our regular library and gallery patrons will be patient while they get used to this latest change.”
Cr Gander said new signs will be installed to show tourists and travellers how to find the visitors’ centre.
Special long vehicle parking arrangements have been put in place in Peisley Street for people to enter the buildings through walkways on the eastern side.
From the start of November the public toilets at the front of the library will be closed for three weeks while the construction crew work in that area.
Temporary toilet facilities will be in place nearby.
