In my opinion, at the present time, the simple answer to that question is a loud, resounding “No”.
I am a strong supporter of the proposed 15 percent GST on everything you buy, however this needs to be done so that low-income families receive compensation, and this is outlined in the reform package.
Of course there are other aspects of our current tax system that need to be looked at, and hopefully this can be done without political motives.
For those of us who struggle to make sense of some economic matters, I believe that in this case it’s essential to carefully read the whole proposed reform package.
I’m reasonably confident that there are enough pressure groups (including some state premiers) to force Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten into showing some real leadership.
Fingers crossed!
