AFTER checking this weekend’s weather forecast Orange CYMS hooker Sam Hill breathed a sigh of relief.
The 23-year-old has done plenty in his short, but accomplished, Group 10 premier league career but he’s never played in the snow, and despite the forecast being clear for tomorrow’s game against Bathurst Panthers at Wade Park, he’s keeping his fingers crossed.
“If it snows again CYMS will be finding a replacement hooker,” Hill laughed.
“There is no way I’m prepared to play in the snow, but it’s supposed to be fine so I think I’m sweet there. I hope so anyway.”
Coming off their first loss of the 2015 season to Lithgow Workies two weeks ago Hill and his CYMS teammates are desperate to bounce back tomorrow against the eighth-placed Panthers, particularly with an extra week off to recover after Group 10 postponed three games last weekend.
“You want to win every game, but after an embarrassing loss like we had against Workies bouncing back with a decent win is definitely motivation for us,” the wily rake said.
“Heading into the back of the season too, it would be good. It’d be nice to turn on a seriously good performance, but I think we’re just concentrating on putting in an effort good enough to get a win first, before we worry too much about piling points on.”

To do that, Hill said his side just needs to focus on the basics, adding the green and golds hadn’t dwelled too much on the loss anyway, especially considering they’re still two points clear on top of the ladder.
“We haven’t spoken too much about the Lithgow game, but I think we need to improve our enthusiasm as a start,” Hill said.
“We also need to be more controlled with the ball, and our one-on-one defence was a bit off against Lithgow too.”
While Group 10 hasn’t made a decision regarding last weekend’s cancelled games, Cowra coach Steve Sutton may have let the cat out of the bag on Thursday, saying “an e-mail was sent around from Ace (Peter McDonald, Group 10 Secretary) ... it will be left to the two respective clubs of each match to negotiate a time that suits.”
Kick-off at Wade Park tomorrow is scheduled for 2.30pm.
