About 9000 people were killed, a further 20,000 injured and several hundred thousand made homeless in the disaster that struck the Kathmandu area in April.
Rotary members raised $7000 to buy seven shelter boxes.
District 9700 Shelterbox ambassador Roy Ferguson said the boxes provided shelter, warmth, dignity and relief for the neediest people in places affected by natural disaster by providing items such as thermal blankets, insulated ground mats, water purification equipment, a stove, solar lights and a children’s activity pack.
While the club has been a regular supporter of the concept, raising more than $25,000 for it over the past six years, Mr Ferguson said the recent events had provided the motivation to boost their assistance.
“Once people see or read about what’s happening during distasters such as the Nepal earthquakes ... a lot of people want to help,” he said.
The Shelterboxes are distributed on a needs basis and, as well as Nepal, have assisted suffering people in Cameroon, Chile, the Democratic Republic of Korea, Niger, Iraq, The Philippines and Syria.
