Among the measures listed in the draft master plan ready for public exhibition was an item suggesting redevelopment of the pub be encouraged to “improve its appeal as a destination and its attractiveness.”
But when the building’s owner, Gai Fardell, was approached for comment, she said it was the first she had heard of the master plan.
“I’m surprised that we’ve not heard from council,” she said of the inclusion.
“If you look at the whole streetscape, we need to redevelop that. The service station next door could be improved.”
She said a new roof had been added and work was underway on the pub’s smoking area.
“Then we can fix up the garden and finish painting it,” she said.
“You can doll things up, but you’re not going to build a whole new building there.”
Among the other features set to be included are a village heart with green space and an additional speciality retail precinct on a shared laneway, enhanced landscaping along the main street, highway upgrades to create a pedestrian main street with space for parking and footpaths, refurbishment of Wentworth Mine, new streets to unlock land with development potential and higher residential density in the village core, with blocks as small as 300 square metres to lift the population.
If given the green light from councillors tonight, the master plan will go on public display for 28 days.
