The 12-year-old from Orange recently contested the Australian Appaloosa Championships in Tamworth where she brought home two titles.
Now she’s getting her passport ready as she has been selected to represent Australia at the Appaloosa Youth World Show in America next year.
“I just have to train really hard,” Gutterson said of how she’s preparing for the World event in Fort Worth, Texas.
Gutterson performed well at the national event riding 10-year-old mare Ampleur Li’l Leaguer, who is affectionately known at Lily.
Together they won the western horsemanship and the reigning titles in the up to 18 years division.
Gutterson has only had Lily since September last year but their match has already proved successful.
“Our personalities match,” Gutterson said of the reason for their success.
Gutterson also rode Silverado Lakota Sunrise, known as Spider, in the dressage, trail and hunter under saddle events where they “did ok”.
This isn’t the first time Gutterson has enjoyed success at the national event.
Last year she won the showmanship and dressage events in her age division.
“It was harder this year because there was more pressure on me,” she explained.
She handled the pressure, performed well and was then one of four competitors selected to represent Australia at the Youth World Show in July next year.
Gutterson and the three other Australian representatives will have a week-long clinic in America before competing in the World event on borrowed horses.
The Kinross Wolaroi student hopes to compete in the hunter under hack event and would love a top three finish in the 14-18 years division.
“It’s the biggest place for Appaloosas. There will be over 100 people in my class,” she explained.
Gutterson plans to have a few barbecues at Bunnings to help fundraise for her trip to America.
