AFTER an encouraging win then a tough loss over the opening two rounds of the 2015 State Tenpin Bowling League season, the Orange Warriors are hoping round three nets a positive result.
Coach Jason Brown knows achieving such a mark on his side’s record is much easier said than done though.
The Warriors host defending champions Shellharbour at the Orange Tenpin Bowl tomorrow, and with the Sharks off to the best possible start to their title defence thanks to wins over Mittagong (89-25) and initially Newcastle (76-38), the competition’s premier outfit travels to Orange in form.
“They’ve got a lot of quality bowlers at their centre, a few of them have been strong enough to bowl at some pretty competitive tournaments overseas,” Brown said.
“They’ve also got a strong bowler from England.
“Where they’re located is where our national coach is - it’s his centre. I think the knowledge he passes down definitely helps out there.”
Orange, though, is more than capable of an upset.
In past campaigns - when the current Shellharbour outfit was dubbed Illawarra - the Warriors regularly defeated the Sharks while bowling on Orange lanes.
A 64-50 win over Bateau Bay in round one points towards the beginning of an Orange resurgence in the state league this season, and although in the last round the Warriors suffered a 66-48 loss to Campbelltown, the Crocs have long been a benchmark state league team.
And Brown is happy with where his side currently sits.
“We’ve got a few guys with experience this week,” he said.
“Our last round in Campbelltown, I thought we bowled pretty well, we just weren’t at the level they were. I wasn’t too disappointed, but we have to be a bit better if we’re going to compete with Shellharbour.”
