Event co-ordinator Denis Gregory said Saturday’s show was a celebration of the 60th birthday of the first F1A sanctioned race meeting in Australia at Gnoo Blas in January 1955 and a salute to Volvo’s involvement in motorsport over the years.
“Of course this area was renamed in honour of Sir Jack Brabham and it is a perfect place to hold this event,” Mr Gregory said.
More than 350 motor vehicles were on show on Saturday attracting a big crowd from young families to older enthusiasts.
Mr Gregory said the variety of vehicles made the car show a hit with enthusiasts.
“We’ve got everything here today from vintage cars to hot rods,” he said.
Mr Gregory said if numbers keep growing in the event the way they have in the last few years it will bigger next year.
“The Bathurst 12-hour race doesn’t really seem to be affecting us now but we have moved our date to a week later for next year’s event,” Mr Gregory said.
Attracting a great deal of interest on Saturday at Sir Jack Brabham Park was the 1947 double decker Albion bus which is credited with more than 15 London to Sydney trips between 1968 and 1982.
“Particularly families and the kids have really been very interested,” club member Wayne Swadling said.
Visitors to the car and bike show were invited to climb aboard and wind their way to the top deck on a narrow spiral staircase, which was a feature of the buses of the time.
Guests at Saturday’s car and bike show and presentation dinner were New Zealand drive Robbie Frankevic and actor Scott McGregor who has family connections to the district.
