Litter is a huge problem in regional NSW and this policy initiative will make a significant contribution to addressing it.
The NSW Government has been looking at different methods used both in Australia and around the world to reduce litter and increase recycling, particularly of container waste.
The government has now advised industry representatives that it favours the introduction of a state-based scheme.
The advice we’ve received is that the most cost-effective and efficient system is one that uses reverse vending machines, which target containers that are predominantly consumed away-from-home.
It’s important that any scheme compliments, rather than competes with the existing kerbside recycling systems.
The NSW Government is currently working with industry and the community to refine the design principles of a CDS and the scheme is certainly an important step in protecting the environmental health of our parks, rivers and towns.
Thirty seven years after Elvis left the building, the Parkes Elvis Festival celebrated what would have been his 80th birthday with style on the weekend.
With record-breaking crowds of more than 20,000, many from Orange made the pilgrimage to Parkes and donned a wig and glasses for a weekend of all things Elvis.
The Festival is proudly supported by the NSW Government through Destination NSW, and is all about having a great time no matter who you are and where you’re from.
Parkes is coming into the Orange electorate and last Thursday I hopped on the Elvis Express at Orange, which was a great experience.
I even attempted to knock out “Blue Suede Shoes” on a float in the street parade on Saturday.
Fortunately, I had a great band to cover any vocal deficiencies!
Thank you to the people of Parkes for the warm country hospitality you showed people from all over Australia and the world - and congratulations on hosting a world class Festival in regional NSW.
