THE Premi-Babes Association of Orange is in danger of folding if more people do not come forward to help the handful of volunteers who have kept the organisation going for the last few years.

The group was formed in Orange in 1973 to raise money to purchase equipment for the special care nursery at the former Orange Base Hospital, and now at the new Orange hospital.
“The last thing we want to do is to have to fold,” treasurer Doug McFarlane said.
With International Volunteer Day on Friday, Mr McFarlane hopes it will make people more aware of the need to volunteer.
“We are in a situation where our secretary has just retired and our president will be stepping down,” he said.
“I’m prepared to give it another shot as treasurer, but we need more helpers.”
Mr McFarlane said the retiring members of the executive have worked extremely hard for the organisation and needed a break.
“This year alone we have raised $20,000,” he said.
Some of that money has gone towards the purchase of an advanced birthing simulator to train midwives, doctors in a range of birthing situations.
“We have also just helped out with money to refurbish one of the consulting rooms for mothers and babies,” Mr McFarlane said.
Mr McFarlane hopes people will go along to the group’s last meeting of the year next Monday night to determine if enough people are interested in taking on executive roles at the group’s annual general meeting in March.
“We will welcome anyone who can come along,” he said.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm next Monday night in the maternity unit on the first floor of Orange hospital.
