Steve Leisk of DoLittle Farm breeds mice for snake food and has expanded his business to selling the mouse manure for compost.
“We’re a commercial mouse farm and we were just throwing the stuff (manure) out the back of the shed and found it composted quickly,” Mr Leisk said.
“People asked to use it and started raving about it.”
Mr Leisk has been running the mouse and reptile business for 11 years and started making the compost about seven years ago.
He said the manure was composted on site for 12 months before it was bagged for people to use on their gardens and had become increasingly popular.
Along with selling individual bags he said they also delivered bulk trailer loads.
“We’ve been doing it (exhibiting at the field days) for five years and each year we’ve had to increase the number of bags that we bring,” Mr Leisk said.
“We will got through 300 bags over three days, which keeps the parcel pickup guys very busy.”
