The Tigers qualified for today’s grand finals, to be played at Bathurst’s Carrington Park, in the under 10s, under 11s, under 12s and under 14s.
They will take on Bathurst Panthers in the 10s and Bathurst St Pat’s in the other three fixtures, and all four two blues coaches said their respective sides head into the deciders confident.
Tigers’ under 10 coach Wayne Hill said despite going in as underdogs, his side will take a wealth of momentum into today’s decider after a strong 30-12 win over Lithgow Storm in last weekend’s preliminary final.
“They’ve won two and we’ve got one this season,” Hill explained.
“They got us in the major semi-final though. It’s always been close between us. The boys got a bit overawed in the major, but we’re relaxed now and they played out of their skin in the prelim last week.
“I think we’ll go really well.”
After a tight 6-nil win over Mudgee last weekend, under 11 coach Mark Waters knows how tough today’s final game will be.
“We’ve got a good shot,” he said.
“There isn’t really much between the two sides. We’re confident.”
Facing an unbeaten Saints team, under 12 mentor Dean Watts said his side had nothing to lose.
“St Pat’s are undefeated so far, but we sort of look at it if you’re going to lose one game a season we might as well make it in the grand final,” he laughed.
Steve Morgan, the Tigers’ under 14 coach, said his side was in for a tough encounter based on 2014’s results so far.
“It’s one each and a draw so far,” he said.
“There has only ever been four points in our games for the last couple of seasons.
“We’ll go in pretty confident though.”
Orange CYMS has just one team representing tomorrow when the green and golds’ under 15 side takes on Bathurst Panthers.
“A few sides got bundled out last week, so we’ve got the entire junior club on us really,” coach Riley Law said.
“It’s always tight with the two sides, we’re both similar sort of sides. Very attacking.”
The under 10 game kicks off at 9am, while the under 11s, 12s, 14s and 15s kick-off at 10am, 11am, 1.05pm and 2.10pm respectively.
