Canobolas Local Area Command acting Inspector Brenden Turner said in recent weeks police had managed to curb the number of break and enters in Orange after making some significant arrests, however it was now up to the public to do their bit to deter criminals.
“We need to remind people to lock their doors and windows and not to leave valuables in cars,” he said.
“They’re [the criminals] just looking for soft targets so they’ll keep checking car doors to see if they can find one that isn’t locked.”
Acting Inspector Turner said while Orange was experiencing a “happy lull” there was no need for people to become complacent.
On Sunday a vehicle was broken into in Franklin Road and late last week a wallet was stolen from a ute in Sieben Drive and a garage remote control handpiece was taken from a car in Ibis Crescent.
A dog squad from Dubbo spent three nights in Orange last week working with police to target house and car break and enters.
