Trying to defeat the Gorillas at Cale Oval in a grand final? Nigh on impossible.
That is what Orange City faces in Saturday’s Central West Junior Rugby Union under 13s grand final, and coach Geoff Pollack knows exactly how tough his side’s task will be.
“We haven’t lost to Narromine this season, but they have all been mighty close games,” he explained.
“I think just two points in all of them. It’s a tough trip, but we do take confidence from beating them there last time.
“In saying that, they gave us a huge scare in the (major) semi-final. They were up 10-nil with a few minutes left, the boys came back to win 12-10 thankfully.
“It’s lucky I don’t have any hair, because I would have pulled it out during that game.”
Pollack and co-coach Pat McDonald said the Lion cubs have focused intently on retaining possession in Saturday’s grand final.
“They have big forwards and slick backs, particularly their 10 (five-eighth), he dominated last time around,” Pollack explained.
“But we have a couple of x-factor kids in this team, which I don’t think they have. Ball retention is huge for us, if we can hold onto it I think we’ll definitely win.”
The under 13s fixture kicks off at 9.30am.
