I joined with those attending the Bathurst and Orange commemorative services, on Sunday and yesterday respectively. We joined together to honour the men and women who served our nation during the Vietnam War - their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
The arrival of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam in South Vietnam during July and August 1962 marked the start of Australia’s involvement in the war. By the time the war had ended, over a decade later, almost 60,000 Australians had served. Of these men and women, 521 died and more than 3000 were wounded.
With conflicts occurring through several parts of the world, we realise just how fortunate we are to live in a country like Australia where democracy and freedom are a given. May we never take this for granted, always appreciate our freedom and be thankful and respectful towards the men and women who serve our country in our armed forces.
Lithgow welcomes the Pollie Pedal
WITH rain threatening, Lithgow rolled out the welcome mat for Prime Minister Tony Abbott and the riders of the 2014 Pollie Pedal on Saturday.
I want to thank the people of Lithgow for welcoming the riders with such enthusiasm and I particularly thank the Lithgow mayor Maree Statham and Lithgow City Council, Lithgow City Band, and the many helpers on the day.
The riders were delayed by some difficult riding over the undulating 150 kilometres from Mudgee. Nonetheless, there were many politicians taking part in the ride, which was all about raising funds and awareness for the three million unpaid carers in Australia.
Summer Hill Creek on the NBN rollout
OVER 130 residents living within the Summer Hill Creek area, north of Orange, will be the next in the electorate to receive NBN services.
Fixed wireless construction recently began on a tower in this area, bringing the total number of towers in Calare to 18, which will service over 3250 premises.
Since the election, the fixed wireless network has more than doubled the number of premises it passes, with more than 115,000 homes and business in rural Australia passed by the network. We are investing up to $1.2 billion more in rural Australia to ensure the satellite and fixed wireless networks are able to cope with demand.
The NBN will update residents throughout Calare when construction has finished and services are able to be ordered. Check the NBN’s website for updates at www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map or contact the NBN via phone on 1800 OUR NBN (1800 687 626).
