Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a house on Cunynghame Street about 1pm last Sunday, where they found Joey Woodcock unconscious and not breathing.
Officers performed CPR on the boy before he was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital, Westmead, in a critical condition.
Police were advised last night, that Joey died shortly after 9pm.
Detectives from Chifley Local Area Command have been conducting investigations to establish how the boy sustained his injuries and urge anyone with information to contact police.
Detective Inspector Luke Rankin said all they know at this stage is that the boy, along with his mother and stepfather, were at the Oberon Recreation Ground, opposite their home, with the family’s two dogs, an alsatian and husky.
Strike Force Aldyth has been established to investigate the child’s death, and comprises detectives from Chifley Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
