Frecklington served as vice-president last season and was voted in at Mitchell’s marathon six-hour annual general meeting in Mudgee on Sunday, replacing Stephen Poole.
“It was definitely something I was interested in taking on after Pooley resigned last season,” Frecklington said.
“He resigned around November, and I took on his responsibilities, so I know what I’m in for.
“It won’t have any impact on my work with Orange. The responsibilities for Orange fall mainly during the season, while everything with Mitchell is pre-season.”
Frecklington said after deciphering several changes and amendments to Mitchell’s constitution and by-laws, the new committee discussed its first order of business - returning the President’s Cup to its former glory.
Once a steadfast fixture on Mitchell’s calendar contested by Orange, Bathurst, Blue Mountains and Mudgee over one weekend, the President’s Cup was changed after season 2012-13, spread over the entirety of last season to fit in with the inaugural Western Premier League.
Frecklington said it is set to revert back to its old format in season 2014-15, and the WPL is also set for a radical change.
“The WPL is set to be played in two pools, a Mitchell pool and a Macquarie-Lachlan Pool,” Frecklington said.
“But that isn’t decided yet. It will be at Western Zone’s AGM this coming Sunday.
“But President’s Cup will be over a weekend, and it will be played in Orange.”
Neil Doherty returns to the Mitchell committee as vice-president while Carl Sharpe retained his role as secretary, Matt Tabbernor has taken on the role of treasurer.
Mitchell’s 2013-14 season awards were also handed out, with Kinross star Charles Litchfield taking out the Colt of the Year and Orange City’s Daniel Donato winning the Junior of the Year gong.
Bathurst’s Josh Toole was awarded the Mitchell Cricket Council Player of the Year after representing Western Zone.
