Brett Jones of Matthews Avenue was on bail at the time of the crash and part of the bail condition was that he was not to consume alcohol or take drugs.
But instead he chose to drink four longnecks and two glasses of wine.
He crashed with another vehicle at the Gardiner Road, Cecil Road roundabout at 12.10pm on Sunday, May 11.
Police facts said the 31-year-old had drank the alcohol between 7pm and 11pm the night before and had eaten no food in that time.
His blood-alcohol level was 0.068 which was low-range.
When officers spoke with Jones at the scene of the crash his eyes were bloodshot and he smelt of alcohol.
His solicitor Mick Madden told Orange Local Court on Thursday his client had made “full and frank admissions” to the crime and his co-operation was proof he felt remorse and contrition for what he had done.
Jones had a previous mid range drink-driving offence two years ago.
“I would ask the court to consider the minimum disqualification period to be applied and a minor fine given his circumstances,” Mr Madden said.
Magistrate Terry Lucas, said because Jones had a previous drink-driving conviction within five years the penalty was automatically higher than what it would have otherwise been.
He was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for six months.
Jones had previously appeared in court for assault, damage property, drug possession, offensive language and resist police.
