That is if it even snows at all.
Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe said it was “touch and go” whether temperatures in Orange would drop low enough for snow to form.
“There will be some showers moving through on Thursday morning and at that time it should be cold enough for some of those showers to be snow showers,” he said.
However snow on Mount Canobolas was more certain but to see it, one would have to park the car at the bottom and trek to the summit on foot because Cabonne Council staff expect to keep the boom gates locked for the next week.
The temperature on Thursday is expected to climb as high as 6 degrees and Mr Sharpe said there would be a ray of sunshine or two in the afternoon to enjoy.
Overall winter in Orange had been slightly warmer than usual where the average maximum temperature reached was 10.7 degrees which is .2 degrees warmer than average.
The average minimum was 3.5 degrees where it had been 2.5 degrees in the past, Mr Sharpe said.
But Orange had experienced a wetter winter so far with 124 millimetres where the average was 72 millimetres.
This month, the lowest temperature occurred on Thursday, July 3 where the mercury dropped to minus 2.9 and the warmest temperature was 15.2 degrees on the same day.
Today is expected to reach 9 degrees with a low of minus 1 overnight.
