Litchfield, continuing her family’s bloodline of uber-talented cricketers, vice-captained New South Wales in its successful School Sport Australia (SSA) Under 12 Girls’ Cricket Championships campaign last week in Darwin.
NSW won all five of its games to secure the national title, against SSA’s Invitational XI, South Australia, Queensland, ACT and Victoria.
Litchfield starred with both bat and ball, taking 5-28 across 15 overs and averaging 39 from three innings during the carnival.
Not needed to bat as NSW piled on 7-193 from its 35 overs against SSA Invitational, Litchfield snared 2-8 with the ball to help her side secure an 85-run win on day one.
Despite scoring just one against South Australia, Litchfield proved hard to handle with the ball again, taking 2-5 in her side’s 14-run win on day two before putting in a huge fielding performance in her side’s massive eight-wicket win over Queensland on day three.
She also took 0-11 from two overs, but wasn’t required to bat.
On days four and five Litchfield found form with willow in hand, scoring 17 not out and 21 not out in NSW’s victories over ACT and Victoria respectively.
She also snared 1-0 from two overs against the latter.
As a Year five student at Kinross Wolaroi, Litchfield will also be eligible for the national championship again next year, in her final year of primary school.
Litchfield was also a member of the Orange District Junior Cricket Association’s first all-girl team last season, and is expected to take the field again in 2014-15.
