Unless all of Mudgee competes in tomorrow’s event, the Orange club will take home its fifth-straight inter-club crown, completing arguably the most dominant series win in the Piranhas’ five-year triathlon reign.

But fuelling one last raid is the chance to clean sweep the women’s divisions.

Laura Auberson (under 19s), Bridgette Burge (20-29), Jess Richards (30-39), Janet Martin (40-49), Julie Middleton (50-59) and Judy Tarleton (60-plus) either have one hand on their respective age division trophies or already have them in the bag in an amazing show of strength for the Piranhas club.

In the lead for the men’s 40-49 division with one round remaining tomorrow, Phil Tudor said while the club as a whole had performed sensationally, it had been on the back of the brilliance from the Piranha women.

“We’ve still got a chance in most of the age divisions, and a lot of the girls are coming up wanting to do well there,” Tudor said.

“The girls, especially, have been great for us this year.”

The Mudgee round of the inter-club series will be run under the grand prix format.

Competitors will go head-to-head over the course of a two-kilometre run, a 250-metre swim, a 9km bike ride, a 150m swim, another 9km bike ride before finishing with another 2km run.

As they have with participation levels all series, Tudor was expecting a strong Piranhas representation to flock to the final event of the year and build on the already impressive 1115 points total the club has amassed through four rounds.

The club accrued 1245 points to claim last year’s title and given a strong contingent in Mudgee tomorrow, that total is set to be blown out of the water.

The main race begins tomorrow at 9.30am.
