The Tigers’ committee recently brainstormed ways to promote the club in a positive manner, and continue “giving the kids a fun place to play rugby league”, president Jaime Kelso explained.

The first of many initiatives is a giant tiger-shaped jumping castle, which they set up at Brendon Sturgeon Oval on Thursday afternoon.

“We thought, ‘what a great way to advertise the club, and our sign-on day’,” Kelso said.

“We’re also planning on setting it up at our home games. It’ll also be available for hire to Bloomfield and Hawks players.”

The Tigers’ will hold their registration day on February 23, at Orange City Bowling Club from 10am-2pm.

“We had around 250 kids the last couple of years,” Kelso said.

“And we’ll be hoping to get around that many again this year. We’ve been strong, winning three premierships last season and four the year before that. We’ve been the dominant side in terms of winning competitions, and we’re also right up there with player numbers.

“We’d love to win more premierships, but that’s not really the main goal. We just want to try and provide the kids a place to play footy, and provide as much as we can for them.”

The Tigers will field upward of 20 junior teams this year, across all 11 age groups.
“We have our minis, the under 6s to under 9s, which is only played in Orange and Blayney,” Kelso said.

“Normally we have two or three teams in each of those divisions, then we move into the mod league, which is the 10s through to 12s. We’re looking at two under 10s and 11s teams, and one side in each age from under 12s up to 16s.”

Kelso said Orange Hawks also need some credit for Bloomfield’s strength.

“We’re doing heaps of work with Hawks now. I haven’t seen so many Hawks players around Bloomfield as I did last year,” he said.

“The kids were running around the sheds, and running the boys out and Hawks just said ‘yes’ to everything. Having them around was great, it gave our kids guys to look up to. We’ll also all be wearing the same jerseys, from Hawks premier league down to the under 6s.”
