KINROSS made its mark on the Orange District Cricket Association second grade competition, thumping Gladstone by 89 runs on Saturday.
Batting first on a low and slow Glenroi Oval, Anthony Begg anchored the students’ all-out innings of 147 with a defiant 49.
Begg came to the crease with Kinross in a little bit of trouble a 5-44 following a brilliant opening spell from Ben McAlpine and Brad Cotter, with the former collecting 4-10 off eight overs while Cotter picked up 2-21.
But Begg’s knock, including five fours and two sixes, ensured the students reached a defendable total.
It proved that way as well.
Tearaway Jack Priest picked up 6-4 to rip through the heart of the Gladstone batting order, a new-ball onslaught they never recovered from on their way to be all out for 58.
A 67-run sixth-wicket partnership between Nick Sharp and Mitch Kennewell rescued Wanderers in their clash with Orange City.
Chasing 152 for victory and left reeling at 5-50, Sharp (44) and Kennewell (33) steadied the ship to guide their side to 7-156 and the three-wicket victory.
A 90 from Chris Beatty and 4-24 from Rob McInnes guided Centrals to a comprehensive win over CYMS in the ODCA’s third grade competition.
Beatty plundered the green and gold attack to all parts of Max Stewart Oval, and was the major run-scorer in the red and blacks’ 212.
CYMS run chase never really took off, with McInnes’ 4-for and three run outs from Centrals restricting the green and golds somewhat before some heavy hitting from Todd Murphy (29) lifted CYMS to 112 in reply.
In other third grade action, Orange City Warriors put together a comprehensive victory over Cavaliers.
Set 139 to win, the Warriors have Jason Beasley’s 66 and an unbeaten 52 from Mick Corby to thank for the side’s seven wicket victory.
In Centenary Cup action, Orange City claimed the competition’s Twenty20 crown with a Pete Shea inspired seven-wicket triumph. Shea belted 73 as his side chased down CYMS Fahys 7-126 in the 18th over.
