The Piranhas take a mammoth 326-point lead into the Dubbo leg of the series, following strong showings in Bathurst and Cowra in rounds one and two respectively.
About 35 Piranhas will make the trip to Ollie Robbins Oval and compete in the single race event, consisting of a 500m swim, 18km ride and 2km run.
OCTC president Steve Martin expects his troops to excel on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to reach upward of 39 degrees in Dubbo tomorrow, but Martin said because the race is run early, he isn’t expecting the heat to take its toll.
“It gets very hot in Dubbo but that’s why we run the race earlier,” he said.
“If it does get anywhere near the forecast while we’re racing I think it will probably hurt us.”
Martin highlighted the Piranha women as the triathletes to watch on Sunday.
“Our women did very well in Cowra, and I expect them to do well again in Dubbo,” he said.
“Janet Martin, Christine Wolfson and Lauren Kerwick should all do well. Jane Fardell, from Dubbo, will be racing I think so she’ll be tough to beat though.”
With over 90 participants expected, Martin said Orange’s toughest competitor would be last placed Dubbo.
“Obviously being their home event there will be much more competitors from Dubbo, and Mudgee for that matter,” he said.
“The current is strong in the river at the moment which is why there is no junior race. It should help out those of use who aren’t natural swimmers as well.
Registration for the event begins at 7.30am with the race scheduled to begin at 9am.
