The two blues are taking on Cavaliers in the first Orange District Cricket Association game of the 2014 calendar year and boasting the solitary victory this season, Waratahs skipper Brock Duncan knows something’s got to give. That something will be Tahs’ work with the willow.
“What we’ve been doing hasn’t really worked for us so far,” Duncan fired.
“We’re not winning games so we’re going to go out there and be a bit more aggressive with the bat. I know it’s a one-dayer but we’ll probably treat it a bit like a Twenty20 game.
“If we’ve got wickets in the shed after 20 overs then we’re laughing.”
Key to hatching his side’s more aggressive game-plan, Duncan believes Rex Cochrane and Nick Frail can potentially lift their side to a strong performance.
Batting, too, will be one area Cavs will look to improve on today.
Cavaliers skipper Richie Venner believes which ever ODCA outfit can dramatically improve its production at the crease will go a long way towards cementing a first grade title.
He backed his side’s bowling and fielding to get the job done against Waratahs, but insisted it’d be nice if Cavaliers’ “up and down” fortunes with the bat turned more favourably as they inch towards finals cricket.
“I think most teams in the competition are in the same boat,” Venner said.
“I think which ever team works out how to bat the longest will be tough to beat.”
Cavs play Waratahs at 1pm at Wade Park.
