Classics such as Chicago and Seussical by the Orange Theatre Company and music by the Glenn Miller Orchestra will suit theatre goers who are happy to play it safe, but there are plenty of acts on offer for those who want something different, she said.
“It helps people on many different levels such as creativity and getting away from the day-to-day,” Mrs Pearce said.
“It’s about understanding things better and escaping and just having a genuinely good laugh.”
Mrs Pearce was referring to shows such as Sons & Mothers by the No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability and Lake by Performing Lines, which is performed on stage but in water.
No theatre program would be complete without Bell Shakespeare, which will present Henry V and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, which will perform Mozart, Schumann and Beethoven.
The 2014 program was about two years in the making and Mrs Pearce said she was particularly excited to have scored Shake and Stir’s 1984 by George Orwell.
“They’re all interesting and exciting, and this year there is quite a lot of contemporary dance, which certainly challenges audiences,” she said.
Orange Civic Theatre is in its 38th year and its reputation means theatre companies now approach the theatre to perform there Mrs Pearce said.
“People like the Bell Shakespeare company and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It’s about the relationships we build with these companies,” she said.
“Also the relationship we have with Bathurst and Dubbo.”
