Following a tour of the hospital’s Central West Cancer Service, the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak decided they wanted to make life a little easier for cancer patients.
“During the tour the members were very interested in the work we are doing here,” chief radiation therapist Rod Hammond said.
“The donation of these mats will make such a difference to patient care.”
The HoverMatts work on an air inflation model that provides comfortable support without compromising the skin or tissue of a patient.
The Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak donated $3255 to set up the HoverMatts.
“The system also allows our nurses to reposition patients more comfortably and this donation will make such a difference to our patients and our staff caring for them,” Mr Hammond said.
Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak president-elect Lynette Bullen said although she wasn’t able to be part of the tour of the cancer unit, the feedback she heard from members was that there was some wonderful work being carried out by health professionals at the unit.
“So obviously we are delighted as a club to be able to provide the funds which will help not only the staff but the patients,” she said.
Ms Bullen said she wanted to congratulate the unit’s staff and the people of Orange who so generously support the club’s fundraising.
