Her blog One Farm Day tells the stories of the men and women who work the land, and waterways across the central west.
Mrs Hansen’s blog received a highly commended in the social media category at the NSW Public Libraries marketing awards 2013.
“It was a huge thrill,” she said.
Throughout 10 blog entries she told stories of a fisherwoman, a beekeeper, an egg producer and a drover among others.
“We really wanted it to be the blue-collar [farmers] not the established farmers ... people whose stories don’t always get told,” she said.
“I think people responded well to it [the blog].”
Mrs Hansen was appointed writer-in-residence for the blog to visit 10 rural sites throughout the central west to bring her agricultural stories to life.
As an agricultural producer herself Mrs Hansen wanted to tell the stories from behind the farm gate and said “everyone has a story to tell”.
“There is a misconception about people in agriculture, they really have to have a broad set of skills,” she said.
Not only does Mrs Hansen’s blog feature stories told lovingly from the farm, it features photos she has taken herself to help tell the tale.
“It’s one of the best projects I’ve worked on in a while, it’s was just fascinating,” she said.
One Farm Day was a partnership between the Central West Writers’ Centre, Central West Libraries and Department of Primary Industries.
