If you can help out temporarily by being a foster carer to a tiny kitten or puppy the RSPCA would be grateful for your help.
Orange RSPCA shelter manager Marissa Clifford says not all animals brought into the shelter can be adopted into their “forever” homes straight away, and need short-term care as a stepping stone to adoption.
“We currently have seven foster carers who help us out here at the shelter, but we would really appreciate more,” Ms Clifford said.
“We always have far more kittens to care for than we do have carers,” she said.
Ms Clifford said of the thousands of animals on the shelter’s books each year, some are not old enough to be desexed or re-homed. These include mothers with young litters or animals requiring rest or rehabilitation, or time to get over surgery, like the cute ginger kitten hit by a car and dumped, but being cared for by a foster carer.
Ms Clifford said the amount of time a foster carer could give was up to the individual, but it could be from four weeks to several months, depending on circumstances.
If you are over18 years of age and can provide a safe and secure environment for fostered animals, as well as your own transport, the Orange shelter is keen to hear from you.
Call the shelter on 6362 6171 to find out more.
The shelter is closed on Tuesdays.
