Amassing 7-150 before bowling the students out for 122 thanks largely to a destructive eight-over spell from Shaun Grenfell (5-17), the Warriors are entrenched alongside CYMS and Cavaliers as the one of the form sides of 2013-14.
Warriors skipper Matt Findlay said it was his team’s fielding that secured them the chocolates at KWS Main Oval.
“We bowled well and fielded really well. We took our catches which was nice,” Findlay said.
“Full credit to Kinross, though, they stuck with it.”
Kinross’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Peter Crisp making the most of his opportunity in the top grade with 2-25 from eight overs.
Those two wickets were crucial, too, with the young seamer removing Orange City’s two highest scoring batsmen, John Warrington (37) and Grenfell (27).
Some lower order hitting from Jackson Coote (20no) took the Warriors to 7-150.
In reply Kinross opener Charlie Litchfield played a lone hand, compiling 57 before falling to Grenfell in the 32nd over with the score on 97.
Andrew Johnson (12) was the only other Kinross batsmen to score double figures in the students’ all-out innings of 122.
“I was really pleased with the way the guys played, they were just a bit too good for us with the ball,” Kinross coach Andrew Litchfield said.
“I thought 150 was achievable and at the 20 over mark we were level pegging, but after that we lost wickets regularly.
“If we had someone stick around with Charlie we may have been a hope.”
Kinross’s next game is against Waratahs, and Litchfield said despite a number of players being unavailable throughout the school holidays, the students were a very real chance of recording win number three for the 2013-14 summer next weekend.
“The Waratahs game is one we need to be on top of,” he said.
“The holidays knock us around a bit and next week we’ll have a different 11 again but I’m confident who ever plays will go out there and give it their best.”
