THE grounds of the Canobolas Rural Technology High School may be decades old, but they are in the process of getting an “uplift” thanks to the collaboration of teachers and students.

While it is only the beginning of the face lift, the school is already coming to life thanks to great new artworks spread throughout the grounds.
Visual arts teacher Matt Caulfield said their newest work was a huge mural that faced onto the school’s sporting grounds.
Mr Caulfield said the bright, colourful and action-packed mural was the work of 50 students from years 7 to 10, himself and creative and performing arts head teacher Geoff Pelley.
“It’s one of many we’re going to be doing,” he said.
“We have an old school and it brightens up the school and uplifts the kids.”
Mr Caulfield said working with the students towards a common goal had created closer relationships, which had benefited the students.
“A lot of the kids come from low-socioeconomic families and school needs to be an environment they enjoy. They’re more relaxed and we get more kids coming up to the art room at lunch, they enjoy it, it’s a creative environment. The student/teacher relationship becomes better,” he said.
Mr Caulfield said many of the existing artworks dating back to the 1980s would be replaced by fresh new works in the coming months.
