A resident near Lucknow since the 1950s, he said he felt it was essential to have a say at Orange City Council’s community drop-in session on Saturday.
Council called for residents and the community to have a say into the development of a master plan for Lucknow.
Mr Cantrill said he was interested in the village’s future, and what was decided can impact generations to come.
“It’s important to care, people can express their opinions without going into the civic centre,” he said.
“If someone plants a tree it’s there for future generations.”
Mr Cantrill said the village’s history in mining should be preserved and promoted.
He said residents of Lucknow, Huntley and Spring Hill would benefit from a natural gas line to their areas.
2 Fat Ladies owner and Lucknow Working Party member Helen Livingstone was one of a dozen people that attended the drop in session.
She said it was important to be involved and it was no good complaining after decisions had been made.
“I’m interested in terms of Orange, and Lucknow is the gateway,” she said.
Ms Livingstone said the gold mining history in Lucknow should be preserved.
“It’s important for the gold mining site to be there for tourists,” she said.
“I’m surprised at the amount of people that come in and ask about it.
“It’ll be good for Lucknow and it’ll be good for us [as a business]”
In addition to heritage improvements, Ms Livingstone said more trees should be planted at Lucknow’s approaches, and parking for motor homes and trucks added to the village.
Orange City Council museum and heritage co-ordinator Alison Russell said many residents agreed on similar improvements for Orange.
“The same things have come up from different people,” she said.
