In her tenure she has never seen a local team win a division at the New South Wales Stage Age Championships.
This year she didn’t just get to see the 14 and under side win, she saw them crowned undefeated champions.
“It’s unreal,” Coughlan said.
“It’s just awesome for Blayney.
“Normally one of our goals is not to come last.
“I can’t remember ever seeing a (division) win.
“And for the girls to have done it undefeated is even more satisfying.”
Winning aside, Coughlan was just as excited to have finally seen a Stage Age Championships presentation.
“We didn’t know what to do. Normally we leave early,” she laughed.
“So just to stay for the presentation was special in itself.”
Considering the form the girls took in to the Championships, Coughlan could have been forgiven for not expecting too much.
“We use our regional competitions as a gauge,” she explained.
“Even there, the girls just weren’t performing.
“They were just incredible once we got to Stage Age.”
Because of the top two finish the team will be promoted to division three at next year’s Championships.
“The girls will be better for the experience,” Coughlan said.
Of the other teams Blayney entered in the championships the under 12s and 13s finished 9th and 11th respectively.
