Orange is one of 22 tourism facilities in mining regions of NSW and the ACT that is now able to access the Gold Trails website that highlights the history of gold mining and bushranging in the regions.
The Wentworth mine at Lucknow and gold mining sites at Ophir are some of the areas featured on the site.
Orange City Council cultural heritage community committee chair, councillor Reg Kidd, said the Gold Trails website was a good resource for the area.
“Orange has a rich history of gold mining locations and stories,” Cr Kidd said.
“It will be great to build connections between what Orange has to offer and the wider region.
“A visit to Ophir would be a great addition for a family’s trip along with other historic gold mining sites at Hill End and Young.”
The Gold Trails project is managed by a regional forum representing 17 local government areas, and supported by the NSW government and Destination NSW.
New signage has also been installed at significant Gold Trails historic sites in the areas featured on the site.
The Gold Trails website www.goldtrails.com.au can be accessed on computers, tablets and mobile phones.
