James Sheahan Catholic High School students saved themoney raised from their school disco to buy 200 chocolate rabbits, to donate to St Vincent De Paul to hand out via the Vinnies food van. 

Student Lyndal Thomas said she was happy to be involved in helping others to have a special Easter, because all too often people took what they had for granted.

“I think this will really mean a lot to [the children],” she said.

The student representative council chose to donate the money to St Vincent De Paul because they wanted to know their efforts were appreciated by those in the Orange region.

Student Sharn Kelly said while the group donates to national and international charities as well, the Vinnies Van was a bit more special to them. 

“It’s good to see people locally benefit from it,” she said.

SRC coordinator Kieron Hogan said during times of celebration it was easy to get wrapped up in buying people gifts and forgetting that there were some people out there who went without. 

“You get so consumed by yourself and what you get, even as an adult,” she said.

The Easter egg drive was one of two major fundraising events for charities the school does during the year. 

At Christmas they buy gifts for St Vincent De Paul to hand out to those in need.
