LAST weekend our sponsors were Lexus of Dubbo and members played for the inaugural Lexus of Dubbo Cup.
The wonderful late summer conditions saw a field of over 180, including Lexus representatives David Hayes, Oscar Koch and Neal McNicol.
A fine range of vehicles was on display and some excellent trophies were sponsored for the three grades and overall winner. The event was an individual stableford and winner of the inaugural Lexus (Dubbo) Cup was Alan Griffiths on 40 points.
Alan’s trophy was bigger and brighter than the Australian Open trophy, it was only matched by Alan’s grin.
Sunday saw the sponsors’ 4BBB day with the winning team of Bruce Whitmill, Stephen Steptoe, Peter Snowden and Rod Craig with a fine 54.
Duntryleague appreciates greatly all of its sponsors and this is a day for the club to give something back to our valued sponsors.
The pennant season is in full swing and the big weekend game was the match-up between the two Duntryleague pennant division one teams. Despite all the threats, sledging and alcohol-induced bravado, the No.1 group came out victors 4-1. They remain the only unbeaten side after three rounds.
Congratulations to Beryl McCloskey, our hard-working board member and club handicapper, who had been appointed to a senior position with the Central West Ladies’ Golf Association.
The course had been magnificent over spring and summer and with the recent rains it is the ideal time to renovate all the greens to ensure they stay in peak condition for the remainder of the year. The grounds staff, ably led by Grant Barnett, have undertaken the task with the minimum disturbance to players and in a very short period of time they will be back to their splendid best.
The sixes competition is back in full swing and it is great to see so many businesses in Orange enjoying this competition. There appears to be some very handy scores coming in and we are all looking forward to the end of competition function.
Recently the club mulched fairways and windfall timber. Members can avail themselves of some of this for their gardens by contacting Grant Barnett on 0414 893 509.
Today is a huge charity event at Duntryleague. A maximum field will take part in the charity golf and dinner, which has seen club member Bob ‘Betcha’ Millikin put in an extraordinary amount of work in attracting sponsors and players.
Friday evening is a dinner with special guest the iconic Australian cricketer Doug Walters (who could forget the magic 100 in a session, finished off with a six).
This is to raise money for the ‘Coast to Coast for Kids’. This is a 3000 km bicycle ride starting at Cooktown and finishing in Sydney. Founding members are Scott Gilkentson and wife Sam Millikin and David Bonne, both who have been personally touched by life-changing experiences attempting to start a family.
All funds raised at the golf and at the dinner and auction will go to the Tumbatin Clinic in the Sydney Children’s Hospital and the Bonnie Babes Foundation.
All are welcome to the club for drinks and to welcome Doug Walters.
This Saturday’s event is an individual stableford, sponsored by great clubman Chris Dywer (Chris Dywer Plumbing). Chris played last weekend with one of his sons to hone his skills for a serious attack on this weekend’s event.
