THE Victoria Socialites put up a great fight against the Great Western Tigers but didn’t quite get there with the Tigers sneaking home with a 6-5 win in the men’s A grade darts competition.
The match was even all night at 3-all after the singles and then 4-all and 5-all, with the result coming down to the final triples, which the Tigers won with Bob Waring, Barry Wicks and Jason Hurford.
Dave Whitmore ran up five 100s, two 140s, 134 and 105 for the Tigers, well backed up by Bob Waring’s five 100s, two 120s, 125, 121 and 120.
Barry Wicks (4x100, 140), Jason Hurford (4x100, 140) and Denis Gregory (140) were the other Tigers to top score.
Brett Quick had a big night for the Socialites, hitting a 180, 135, 125 and 115.
Ben McIntosh (2x125) and Damian Caughlan (100) added to the Socialites’ tally.
The Victoria Spitfires had a solid 9-2 win over the Carrington Redbacks.
Aaron Osborne led the high scoring for the Spitfires with six 100s, two 140s and 125, while Matt Jones (2x100, 125, 121), Mark Wiegold (4x100, 140), Wayne Wallace (2x100, 2x140, 122), Rod Southwell (2x100) and Jason Fewings (134) also did their parts.
Carrington Redbacks’ top scores were hit by Rob Jakes (140, 100), Dennis Horton (133, 100), Dave Power (2x100, 2x115, 111) and Rod Millar (119, 100).
The Dad and Daves were too strong for the Ophir Gold Diggers, winning 10-1 with players getting the usual huge run of big scores with John Fabar (180, 3x100, 135) and Ken Kostitch (5x100, 2x140) showing the way.
Rob Crowe (125, 134, 140), Brad White (2x100, 105), Jay Jordan (2x100, 115) and Kevin Owers (3x100, 140) did the rest.
The Gold Diggers’ big scores were hit by Will Owers (121), Matthew Caughlan (140) and Grant Bloomfield (140, 101,100).
New A grade teams Hotel Orange Roosters and the Royal Ts, who won B grade and had to move up this time, resulted in an easy 10-1 win for the Ts.
The Ts’ top scorers were Daniel Allen (3x100, 2x140), Troy Mavrak (2x140, 100), Adam Breek (125, 100), Jason Drew (2x100), Luke Mavrak (100) and Steve Leonard (120, 105), while Raymond Paul (100), Andrew Cooney (125, 100), Luke Ezzy (100) and Nathan Fitzpatrick (101) did the best for the Roosters.
The Great Western Spear Chuckers had a 7-4 win over sister team D and Ds, with the big Spear Chuckers’ high scores hit by Steve O’Donnell (100, 77 peg-out), while Matt Reynolds (100) and Craig Ross (100) got the D and Ds.
The Royal Half Dozen just scraped home 6-5 against the Victoria DTs in a keenly-fought match.
Paul Schwarz (112), Tony Smith (121) and Frank Smith (140) did the damage for the Half Dozen, with the DTs’ top scores hit by Dave Christopher (100) and Lionel McKay (113).
