Since November last year Rachel has built on her initial success of a statewide design award from a simple concept by launching into 500 stores around Australian and New Zealand including independent gift and homewares stores.
“I am so excited that David Jones has now taken the hangar on and is featuring it in the Christmas catalogue,” said Rachel.
A former student of James Sheahan Catholic High School, Rachel followed her passion and pursued an entrepreneurial career in preference to university and has achieved remarkable success at a young age.
“This little product started out in my garage and since November 50,000 have gone into stores,” she said.
With success however Rachel says it is time to move to Sydney.
“I love being near my family because I couldn’t have got this far without them, but Sydney is where all the designers are and that’s where I need to be to prepare for the launch of my new product lines,” she said.
Recent distribution deals will also see her products distributed in France, the United Kingdom, German, Switzerland and other European countries, while she maintains her presence in the Asian market.
Rachel says working 16-hours a day to sure up contracts for next year in Canada, and Japan takes its toll on her social life.
“When I move to Sydney I hope to get a few hours in a part time job, because I spend all my day on my own at the computer and I really need to have that social interaction with others,” she said.
Rachel’s success began with her win in the NSW Young BizStar competition with her simple concept of her coathanger-style jewellery accessory.
Her most recent success came just a couple of days ago when she won a runner-up prize of $3000 in the Essentially for Women Business Awards in Brisbane.
Rachel’s goal for the next 12 months is to distribute 100,000 hangers to stores throughout the world.
