THE message to young people at Wednesday night’s Four O’Clock Knock seminar was simple.

Slow down and it could save your life or the life of your passengers.
A crowd of almost 350 heard emergency services personnel, emergency department doctors, a funeral director, and facilitator Frank Bottomley give their personal accounts of the trauma associated with road crashes.
The seminar was hosted by the Rotary Club Orange of Calare who were assisted with generous donations from organisations who supported the project.
Facilitator Frank Bottomley, who was inspired to launch the series of seminars throughout NSW after an experience with his own son in a motor vehicle accident, said he was pleased with the response in Orange.
Speakers included funeral director Craig Ostini, Orange Ambulance Station Officer Warren Dilkes, Orange Fire Brigade station officer Phil Rhodes, crash victim Laurie Neville and Dr Andy Mather from the emergency department of Orange Base Hospital.
Mr Ostini told the crowd of young people and their parents of the trauma associated with the funeral of a young crash victim.
“I simply cannot put into words the trauma parents experience when they see their child lying in a coffin. While we all think this will never happen to us I pray we will all be here in 10 years’ time,” Mr Ostini said.
Several graphic videos of the experiences of young people in cars, were screened during the evening, which several young people said after the seminar had an impact on them.
“It was so strange, because I could really relate to what they were doing,” said Stacey Evans, 18.
Mr Bottomley said he would like to work closely with the Orange community in organising a similar seminar at a future date.
“If it saves just one life, it will all have been worth it,” he said.
Before the seminar began, Mr Bottomley asked the crowd to observe a short silence in memory of two young Orange men, Nic Carroll and Andrew Camer, who lost their lives in a motor vehicle accident north of the city last week.
